New Faces Leading Daegu’s Economy… 13 “Star Companies” Selected for 2025
Thirteen companies, including CIS Co., Ltd., have been named as Daegu’s “2025 Star Companies,” which will lead the city’s economy and drive its future industries.
Daegu City and Daegu Technopark held a designation certificate award ceremony for the 13 selected companies on the 16th at Hotel Inter-Burgo Daegu.
The selected companies include two “Powerful Star Companies,” six “Star Companies,” and five “Pre-Star Companies.” The final selections were made after about three months of rigorous screening, including document reviews, presentations, on-site inspections, and comprehensive evaluations of 50 applicant companies.
This year’s competition was fierce, recording a ratio of 3.17:1 for Star Companies and 5.8:1 for Pre-Star Companies, reflecting greater enthusiasm and interest among promising local companies than ever before.
The two companies selected as Powerful Star Companies are CIS Co., Ltd. and ISU Petasys Co., Ltd. As of last year, these two companies posted an average annual sales of 613.6 billion KRW and employed 850 people. They plan to invest a total of 150.9 billion KRW in the region by 2027.
In particular, CIS is noted as a representative case of growth, having gone public (IPO) and developed into a mid-sized company since being selected as a Star Company, making it a successful model for the Star Company development project. ISU Petasys holds the highest market capitalization among listed companies in the region and is expected to have a significant ripple effect on the regional economy through co-growth and job creation as the high-performance AI market expands.
The six companies selected as Star Companies this year are Daegyeong Robotech Co., Ltd., Rexco Co., Ltd., Vision Science Co., Ltd., UND Co., Ltd., Hi-Bak Co., Ltd., and Korea Park Golf Co., Ltd. These companies recorded an average annual sales of 23 billion KRW and an average of 79 employees as of last year. They were evaluated as small but strong local companies with both technological foundations and growth potential.
The five companies selected as Pre-Star Companies are Gwangjin Metal Co., Ltd., Maru E&C Co., Ltd., Miracle Solution Co., Ltd., Azonetech Co., Ltd., and It’s Sensor Co., Ltd. These companies reported average annual sales of 5.3 billion KRW and an average of 18 employees.
Starting this year, Daegu City has completely overhauled its corporate support system, providing customized support according to the company’s growth stage and innovation capacity, categorized as “Innovation Promotion,” “Competitiveness Enhancement,” and “Market Entry.” In addition, the city introduced a “hybrid advisory system” that combines the strengths of the previous PM (Project Manager) and SC (Specialized Committeeman) systems.

Gyeongbuk Province Opens Leading Research Center in Intelligent Digital Convergence Field!
Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 22nd that it held an opening ceremony for the ‘Lifelog Multimodal Untact Sensing Leading Research Center’ at the Yeungnam University Cheonma Art Center on the 20th.
This leading research center will be led by Yeungnam University and will involve scholars from Konkuk University and Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology in conducting joint research. It was selected for a public offering by the Ministry of Science and ICT in June, and a total of 12 billion won in national and local government funds will be provided for seven years until February 2030.
In the future, Yeungnam University and others will research and develop technologies (sensing) that collect non-contact (untact) biometric information that can be monitored (lifelog) in the living environment, and communication technologies (multimodal) that can send various collected information to a computer server.
The verification in the development stage is set in a medical environment, and is designed to build a disease management system throughout the entire cycle, from disease information collection to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Major research topics include non-contact sensor technology that optimizes medical data collection using the characteristics of electronic, radio, and optical waves, sensor platform technology that can be expanded into other fields, technology to extract correlations between collected information using deep learning-based fusion analysis, and diagnostic algorithms and analysis technology based on medical data.
The Regional Innovation Leading Research Center is a project to establish a specialized research center based on basic research at regional universities with graduate schools in science and engineering fields.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Province announced on the 2nd that Yeungnam University’s ‘Multimodal Untact Sensing Research Center for Lifelog’ was finally selected in the ‘2023 Regional Innovation Leading Research Center Project’ (RLRC) competition hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The Regional Innovation Leading Research Center Project is a project to establish and support leading research centers specialized in regional innovation to lead sustainable, self-generated innovation growth in regions based on basic research.
Yeongnam University, Gyeongbuk Province, Gyeongsan City, etc. supported the intelligent digital convergence sector of the regional innovation growth sector of this project by local autonomous bodies and achieved results.
The Multimodal Untact Sensing Research Center for Lifelog at Yeungnam University will receive a total of KRW 14 billion in support, including KRW 10.1 billion in national funds, funds from Gyeongbuk Province and Gyeongsan City, and private investment, for up to seven years until February 2030. The center is scheduled to be established within the Yeungnam University Graduate School.
Lifelog multimodal untact sensing is a technology that detects various forms of biometric information such as heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, body temperature, and oxygen saturation in daily life without physical contact.
The Yeungnam University Research Center, together with Yeungnam University Hospital, DGIST, and Azone Tech Co., Ltd., a non-contact medical IT company in Gumi, is developing a disease management system that transmits and analyzes various medical data, such as the movements and temperature changes of patients, including elderly people living alone, to medical institutions.
By utilizing this, it is expected that hospitals and other organizations will be able to monitor and analyze the health information of patients living in medically underserved areas, and if abnormal symptoms are observed in such patients, medical institutions and fire departments will be able to dispatch patients and provide treatment.
They will play a role in specialized fields such as technology development, training of biomedical engineers, medical data analysis and clinical application, and sensor platform commercialization. Gyeongbuk Province expects that through this, they will be able to train excellent local talent and spread the research results to the region.
Gyeongbuk Province achieved the result of being selected as the third leading research center, following Yeungnam University’s ‘Autonomous Vehicle Parts and Materials Blue Research Center’ in 2019 and Gyeongbuk National University’s Sangju Campus’ ‘Carbon Neutral Intelligent Energy System Leading Research Center’ in 2021.

Seoul-( Newswire )- Global Cyber University AI Convergence Department Head Seok Gwang-ho and Azone Tech CEO Chae Min-seok signed an industry-commissioned education agreement (MOU) on November 8.
At the signing ceremony, the two organizations agreed to jointly develop an AI convergence education curriculum to foster excellent talent tailored to industrial sites and jointly conduct AI and metaverse research and projects through industry-academia cooperation. Workshop on ‘AIoT-based platform technology development’ to make old buildings smart and safe
Technology development is underway to safely and smartly manage aging facilities in Gyeongbuk Province.
The workshop on ‘AIoT-based 3-type collective facility safety management platform technology development’ was held at Sonobel Resort in Gyeongju for 2 days and 1 night from the 24th to the 25th of last month. The first-year workshop was held with DS Tech as the main organization, Pohang University of Science and Technology, Azone Tech, Korea Construction Living Environment Testing and Research Institute, Pohang City, and smart city experts in attendance.
This research is a project to develop safety inspection and disaster prevention technology for three types of collective facilities for the ‘Regional Customized Disaster and Safety Problem Solving Technology Development Support’ supported by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province with an investment of approximately KRW 2.1 billion from April of this year to December 2023. The goal is to build a platform for safety management of three types of collective facilities and a smart digital management system for facility safety information through safety inspection support for three types of collective facilities, sensor/video data collection for facility risk response, commercial communication network utilization, and big data analysis.
The workshop on that day included in-depth discussions on the research institute’s technology development plans and current status, detailed research and development content and schedule for selection and on-site application of aging facilities in Pohang City, attempts to resolve project implementation issues and on-site difficulties, and specific discussions on cooperation measures between research institutes.
Park Cheon-deok, CEO of DS Tech, said, “By utilizing the technology developed through this project, we can shorten the period of about a week for on-site inspection-diagnosis-analysis of three types of facilities by 2-3 days, and we can significantly reduce the cost of accurate diagnosis and duplicate inspection based on data compared to visual inspection, thereby enabling safety management of facilities.”
