Gyeongbuk Province Opens Leading Research Center in Intelligent Digital Convergence Field!

Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 22nd that it held an opening ceremony for the ‘Lifelog Multimodal Untact Sensing Leading Research Center’ at the Yeungnam University Cheonma Art Center on the 20th.

This leading research center will be led by Yeungnam University and will involve scholars from Konkuk University and Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology in conducting joint research. It was selected for a public offering by the Ministry of Science and ICT in June, and a total of 12 billion won in national and local government funds will be provided for seven years until February 2030.

In the future, Yeungnam University and others will research and develop technologies (sensing) that collect non-contact (untact) biometric information that can be monitored (lifelog) in the living environment, and communication technologies (multimodal) that can send various collected information to a computer server.

The verification in the development stage is set in a medical environment, and is designed to build a disease management system throughout the entire cycle, from disease information collection to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Major research topics include non-contact sensor technology that optimizes medical data collection using the characteristics of electronic, radio, and optical waves, sensor platform technology that can be expanded into other fields, technology to extract correlations between collected information using deep learning-based fusion analysis, and diagnostic algorithms and analysis technology based on medical data.

The Regional Innovation Leading Research Center is a project to establish a specialized research center based on basic research at regional universities with graduate schools in science and engineering fields.

Choi Hyuk-jun, Director of the Metaverse Science Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “The role of the Regional Innovation Leading Research Center is important as a core base for fostering excellent talent centered on universities and disseminating research results to local companies,” adding, “We will actively support creating an environment where excellent researchers in the region can freely conduct research in Gyeongbuk.”
