New Faces Leading Daegu’s Economy… 13 “Star Companies” Selected for 2025

Thirteen companies, including CIS Co., Ltd., have been named as Daegu’s “2025 Star Companies,” which will lead the city’s economy and drive its future industries.

Daegu City and Daegu Technopark held a designation certificate award ceremony for the 13 selected companies on the 16th at Hotel Inter-Burgo Daegu.

The selected companies include two “Powerful Star Companies,” six “Star Companies,” and five “Pre-Star Companies.” The final selections were made after about three months of rigorous screening, including document reviews, presentations, on-site inspections, and comprehensive evaluations of 50 applicant companies.

This year’s competition was fierce, recording a ratio of 3.17:1 for Star Companies and 5.8:1 for Pre-Star Companies, reflecting greater enthusiasm and interest among promising local companies than ever before.

The two companies selected as Powerful Star Companies are CIS Co., Ltd. and ISU Petasys Co., Ltd. As of last year, these two companies posted an average annual sales of 613.6 billion KRW and employed 850 people. They plan to invest a total of 150.9 billion KRW in the region by 2027.

In particular, CIS is noted as a representative case of growth, having gone public (IPO) and developed into a mid-sized company since being selected as a Star Company, making it a successful model for the Star Company development project. ISU Petasys holds the highest market capitalization among listed companies in the region and is expected to have a significant ripple effect on the regional economy through co-growth and job creation as the high-performance AI market expands.

The six companies selected as Star Companies this year are Daegyeong Robotech Co., Ltd., Rexco Co., Ltd., Vision Science Co., Ltd., UND Co., Ltd., Hi-Bak Co., Ltd., and Korea Park Golf Co., Ltd. These companies recorded an average annual sales of 23 billion KRW and an average of 79 employees as of last year. They were evaluated as small but strong local companies with both technological foundations and growth potential.

The five companies selected as Pre-Star Companies are Gwangjin Metal Co., Ltd., Maru E&C Co., Ltd., Miracle Solution Co., Ltd., Azonetech Co., Ltd., and It’s Sensor Co., Ltd. These companies reported average annual sales of 5.3 billion KRW and an average of 18 employees.

Starting this year, Daegu City has completely overhauled its corporate support system, providing customized support according to the company’s growth stage and innovation capacity, categorized as “Innovation Promotion,” “Competitiveness Enhancement,” and “Market Entry.” In addition, the city introduced a “hybrid advisory system” that combines the strengths of the previous PM (Project Manager) and SC (Specialized Committeeman) systems.

Hong Seong-ju, Daegu’s Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, stated, “The Star Companies selected this year are innovative firms with the potential to redraw Daegu’s industrial landscape. We will spare no effort to support these companies so they can grow into leading firms that drive local employment and the economy.”
